Dr. Chris McAllister, 91快活林破解版 professor of biology, and Independent Study students Jos茅 Fuentes and Cecilia Phan traveled to Clinton, Arkansas, July 13-17, to conduct parasitological research in the Ozark Mountains. They were joined by Dr. Steve Chordas III of Ohio State University, an expert in hemipteran insects, and host Dr. Dennis Richardson, whose research focuses on fish leeches.
The team made several noteworthy discoveries during the trip, including what they believe may be two previously undocumented species of myxosporean parasites鈥攐ne found in a green sunfish and another in a plains stoneroller. They also collected a banded watersnake that yielded coccidian oocysts which may represent another potentially new species.
The research continues in early August, when Fuentes and Phan will travel with Dr. McAllister to Prescott, Arkansas, to study aquatic species in the lower Ouachita River drainage. They will also be joined by biologists from the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission based in Camden.
